PPP Loans in Ohio
As an Ohio resident, I became interested in the Payment Protection Program (PPP) that was administered by the Small Business Administration during the COVID-19 Crisis. In the interactive dashboard below you can click on a specific zip code on both maps in order to see a breakdown of the number of jobs saved and the loan amount for that area. After clicking on a specific zip code, the sector type of businesses that received a PPP loan in that zip code is filtered further below in the dashboard.
Interesting relationships include the number of loans and jobs saved in urban areas being vastly greater than in rural areas. Obviously, population numbers are at play in this relationship between loan amount and jobs saved and specific areas. Future work could consider a per-capita breakdown of areas in order to understand relationships between population and loan amount and jobs saved.
This information was sourced from the Small Business Administration. This data has some errors in zip-coding it appears, as some loans appear to have been created outside of Ohio. This is not surprising given the size of the data set.
